PARALLEL is a joint exhibition by multidisciplinary artists Sammi Carr and Laura Gordon, both working and living on unceded Dharawal country.
Featured Artists
Sammi Carr
Her collection for PARALLEL showcases Sammi’s signature style of bold, cubist-inspired figures in electric colour patterns. The works range from acrylic to found materials and painted cardboard. Her maximalist use of colour, shape, contrast and repeated motifs nods strongly to cubism and street-art sensibilities alike.
Multidisciplinary Artist
Laura Gordon
Exploring the relationship between body, movement and structure, the work holds tension between masculine and feminine qualities. Rigid metal frameworks paired with softer, flexible textiles to suggest movement, containment and the body.
Multidisciplinary ArtistParallel: A meeting of minds
PARALLEL explores the power of parallel play and how it influences each other’s behaviour.
Sammi and Laura’s “body doubling” with activities like art-making, along with more cumbersome responsibilities like room cleaning and tooth brushing, increases their ability to stay on task, increase productivity and reduce distractions.
PARALLEL speaks to the joy of playing, creating and working alongside another person who meets you with the ultimate understanding and grace, with the added benefit of accountability.
Simply put, the sooner we fold our clothes, the sooner we can watch Girls together.
In addition to their installation piece, STAGE MOMS, Sammi and Laura intend to continue their collaborative work across a range of mediums and sites.
